Tomasz Rogula, MD, PhD, is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Case Wester Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH, USA and a Professor of Surgery and Chief of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Division, Jagiellonian University Krakow, Poland. He is a former Chief of General Surgery Division, Director of Gastrointestinal Metabolic Surgery Center, Residency Program Director and a Co-Director of Bariatric Surgery at the University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Dr Rogula is a Faculty - Associate Professor of Surgery at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. He is also a Professor of Surgery at the JKU University School of Medicine in Kielce, Poland.
He is a former Staff Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic – Bariatric Metabolic Institute. He was born in Poland, now an US Citizen. He graduated from the Jagiellonian University School of Medicine in Krakow, Poland and was trained in weight loss and general surgery in the United States (Mount Sinai School of Medicine – New York, University of Pittsburgh, PA), Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Canada, United Kingdom and Japan.
Dr Rogula performs all types of bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, mini-gastric bypass, BPD-DS, SADIS, lap band, gastric plications, gastric balloon and endoscopic gastro-pasty. He performs his surgery laparoscopically, with a robot or traditionally. He also does advanced revisions and diagnostic procedures.
In addition to bariatric surgery, his specialty interests include advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and hernia repair. He performed the first robotic assisted gastric bypass for obesity and initiated single incision laparoscopic bariatric surgery, cholecystectomy and hernia repair at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Rogula has done pioneering research on novel weight-loss surgery procedures. He published 55 articles and 22 book chapters on topics of bariatric and laparoscopic surgery and is a peer reviewer for the journal of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases and Guest Editor for Journal of Obesity and Annals of Surgical Innovation and Research. He is an Editor of newly published textbook "Prevention and Management of Complications in Bariatric Surgery" recently published by the Oxford University Press. Dr Rogula initiated the Bariatric Clinical Program for Medical Students at the Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He was awarded for his medical innovations and holds pending patents for new surgical devices.
He was an invited speaker for nearly 300 national and international surgical meetings and workshops. He is a Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and European Association for Endocopic Surgery.
He is a co-founder of the International Club of Young Laparoscopic Surgeons and a founder and President of the International Bariatric Club – a global bariatric network organization. gathering nearly 6000 surgeons from all around the World. IBC is affiliated with the Oxford University and Organizes World Congress every year.
